So we spoke with the owner about this service and had an appraiser at our house the very next day. The appraiser was kind and communicative and our rep we spoke with at the company was helpful and informative.
We had our car go up on auction online and got an offer that we were comfortable with. We were able to arrange to take our car to the dealer that won the auction the next day. When at the dealership, they did a deeper inspection and found damage to the front of the vehicle that was never reported to CarFax or disclosed to us when we bought the vehicle (we had clearly been taken advantage of by our original seller...how infuriating is that?!). I called my lawyer to see what we could do but the mom and pop shop we bought from was no longer in business, we found out that we didn't have any recourse to pursue if we sold the vehicle and slim chance of getting anywhere were we to hold onto it. We aren't "car people" and didn't have any idea what we were supposed to do. Brittany, the owner, talked through everything with us on the phone (we were so grateful for this because we felt so violated by the discovery of being lied to when we bought it) and she spoke with the dealer we're were with now to help us get the best and most reasonable price we could, now realizing that our car had major repairs done to it that we were unaware of.
Swallowing the reality that we were going to lose 25%+ of our car's value on the spot was really tough. But the dealer made us an offer on the vehicle and assured us that there was a market for vehicles that had repairs like this. He was confident he could still work with us. I wouldn't have even known where to start on something like that! He then encouraged us to take the car to CarMax to see if we could get a higher offer there and promised to do $250 more than that offer if it was above his adjusted offer - there apparently is a program with CarMax ("max offer?") where they can sell the vehicle back to CarMax to make that profit back. Their valuation was $2,000 less than what he was going to do for us - yikes.
Don't get me wrong, finding out i'm getting $4,000 less for my car than I thought I would was ROUGH. But $6,000 less (what we would have had to settle for with CarMax) would have been even worse - and wouldn't have even covered the loan we had on the car. I am confident that the dealer was willing to help us get what we could because of his positive relationship with Brittany and Driveway Auction.
Here's what I felt like we had in this whole process that we wouldn't have had elsewhere - an advocate. Brittany went to bat for us with the dealer, made concessions to help us get the best deal, and cared about what kind of position we were put in. We didn't feel alone and we didn't feel like we were going to be uninformed and taken advantage of. I can imagine how differently this might have gone had we just went to a dealer on our own or just went straight to CarMax. We didn't know it in the moment, but Driveway Auction's relationship with the dealership is what ensured we didn't lose money on our car. The dealership ended up honoring their reduced offer and gave us about $2,000 more than CarMax would have, which made sure we were able to still pay off our loan and move on.
Again, I can't stress enough how hard it was to find out our car was going to be worth a lot less than we thought. Going in with the auction offer we had and having to drop so much took a second to settle, but had we done it alone, we would have found out anyway, and we would not have had an advocate who had been walking with us in the process and ready to help us when we found out. Prime pickings for a dealer who may not have our best interests in mind...
Everyone wishes they had an impartial "car-wise" friend with them in the selling and purchasing process of getting a car. Car sales is synonymous with schemey and cheap. I hate buying and selling cars...we've only done it when we needed to. But I would work with Brittany and Driveway Auction again so as to avoid feeling so alone and uninformed as I have when doing all of this solo. This company is wonderful and I wish I had known about them sooner. My vehicle was listed for months on Car Guru, AutoTrader, Cars for Sale, etc. and everyone that called was lowballing and a complete waste of time. Driveway Auction called me, sent someone out to assess the vehicle and then put it up for auction and sold within an hour in just a matter of days. And then when it came to making the transaction, I was in and out of the dealer in less than 15 minutes. IT REALLY WAS THAT SIMPLE. And they made it so easy. It's pretty cool that this is the new way to sell (and easiest) and I'm glad I'm moving forward with the times. Britt stay in touch with me the entire day of the auction (which was literally 18 hours after we first spoke). I think she was more excited than I was on the process. Turns out I received within a couple hundred dollars of what we discussed. Delivered my car to the dealership the next day and the entire process took less than 15 minutes. Best car sales experience ever if you are willing to take a reasonable amount for your car. I highly recommend them, the whole team was easy to work with! read less

I was very hesitant because at first I did not understand the business. Same day that I spoke with Brittany, she sent the estimator/inspector and within 2 hours my car was sold. I waited last minute to post my car on Facebook market place before we were PCSing out of the country. It came down to the day before our flight and I had people no-show me to see my car. Out of desperation, I brought it to dealerships and got offers that were frustratingly low. Then Brittany reached out through Facebook. I was skeptical at first, but she reassured me that we could make this work before we had to be at the airport the next afternoon. The morning of our moving day, she had someone out to inspect our car. It took about 20 minutes and then it was posted for auction. I got a bid I was satisfied with and within 2 hours of my inspection, I was at the bank getting a check from the purchaser and then off to the airport. Brittany made it all happen for us in the short time span we gave her. She was truly our saving grace. I absolutely recommend this to anyone moving, PCSing; anyone who is tired of lowball offers from dealerships; or anyone wanting to avoid the hassle of dealing with the unreliability of Facebook market place.
